'Guided Learning' Programme
The 'Guided Learning' Programme mission
"To Uncover the wild side of Sidmouth one step at a time"
The ‘Wild Side of Sidmouth’ is made up of three main themes, each theme has six topics and each topic has eight threads; that is 144 pages of information! Dipping in for a single piece of information is easy enough, but what if you want to understand the bigger picture? What if you want more? What if you want to know what influences our natural environment, how our local habitats were formed, or how adjacent wildlife corridors link together? Would that be overwhelming? Where do you start? How would you go about it? What support is available to you?
The ‘Guided Learning’ programme has been created to help those seeking a deeper understanding of the natural environment of Sidmouth; its ‘wild side’. It is a guided tour around the key components of the town’s natural ecological features.
The programme is designed to be flexible but with structure. Learners participate from their own home, at times to suit them and to a degree of depth that meets their needs. There are no deadlines, no tests or assessments and you can join or leave at any time.
How does it work?
Join using the sign-up box below. You only need to enter your email address. There are no passwords to create, no apps to install, and no fees—it is completely free, private, and open to all.
Every Tuesday and Friday morning, a short dispatch arrives in your inbox that introduces that day's subject in plain, accessible language.
If that day's theme catches your eye, a link takes you to the full website thread; you choose the time, it does not have to be immediately, indeed not even that day. There you can read deeper notes, view illustrated presentations, watch animated overviews, or listen to audio discussions. You can revisit any page whenever you like.
If you wish to ask questions, vote in polls, or compare notes with fellow learners, the Community Hub provides an ad-free space to talk with others.
The ‘Guided Learning’ timetable
Because this is an ongoing rolling programme, you can join at any point in the cycle without falling behind. The planned curriculum spans two years, with natural pauses during July, August, and December:
